Fill open positions with foreign workers overseas and in Canada
Labour shortage can be costly for any business, and as businesses try to fill critical positions, finding and retaining qualified workers in Canada can sometimes become daunting.
Several companies have benefited from hiring foreign workers outside Canada or transferring talents from one business location outside Canada to another in Canada to meet business needs. If you’ve thought about how this can meet your business needs, or you are unsure about the process and the implications of bringing a foreign worker, retaining a foreign worker in your company, we’ll be happy to help.
Canada allows businesses to bring in employees on an employer-specific work permit through one of the following routes
LMIA - Exempt Application
LMIA Application: If your employment does not fall under the definition of LMIA Exempt, you may need an LMIA to bring a foreign worker to Canada. LMIA shows that employers are not taking jobs away from Canadians and permanent residents in Canada.
LMIA may be a last resort for an Employer, as several provincial programs may allow you to hire a foreign workers and support their application for permanent residency.
However, should an employer decide to hire a foreign worker, the employee is required to move to Canada, even if the position would be Hybrid. If the position can be performed from outside Canada, the business will not need to go through this route, and can simply offer a remote position.
